Sealing

Robotic sealing is a fully automated process for applying sealants and levelling compounds. It uses multi-axis industrial robots equipped with dedicated dispensing systems to produce a precise, uniform bead with specified width, height, and material-volume parameters.

The robot is fitted with an application head that controls:

  • media flow – flow profiles are adjusted to match travel speed
  • temperature – the sealant can be heated to optimize viscosity
  • pressure – consistent dispensing is maintained as the path cross-section changes

Robotic sealing systems often integrate the following technologies:

  • laser or vision sensors to detect an edge or joint contour
  • 3D profilers to inspect the geometry of the applied bead
  • compensation algorithms for real-time path adaptation, for example to accommodate body or component tolerances

Robotic systems can apply a wide range of sealants:

  • one-component (1K) and two-component (2K) polyurethane and MS-polymer sealants
  • epoxy sealing compounds
  • acrylic and butyl compounds for specialist applications

Benefits of robotic sealing include:

  • high repeatability of the applied bead, with volume tolerances of ±5%
  • stable application speed, typically 100–300 mm/s depending on viscosity
  • elimination of manual intervention and reduced scrap
  • straightforward integration into automated lines with downstream drying or curing
